by Brittany Pierce for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

Inspiration Piece: Starry Night

Inspiration Artist: Van Gogh

I used the canvas as the background and added the thin wood to make it pop, I used acrylic paint to paint the background. I propped the canvas on the big piece of wood with two triangles that I cut out of a block of wood and used the flat surface as the base for the 3D work. The hills were made with Styrofoam and clay, and painted with acrylic paint. All of the little buildings were cut out of the Styrofoam and also painted with acrylic paint. the tallest building was made with the wax based clay and wire in the middle which is holding up the antenna. the other big building are made with wood and wax based clay. all of the building were painted with acrylic and the windows cut from the little strips of paper. I used the little plastic pellets as the stars on the background to make them pop a little bit. And I used some of the clay on the flat surface around the building to give the ground some texture. All of the blocks of wood were cut with a hand saw and the thin wood was cut with a box cutter.
