I have created a modern interpretation of Salvador Dali's "Persistence of Memory". I chose to re-invent this timeless masterpiece by modernizing the elements of the original painting. The classic clocks have been transformed into modern digital clocks. The orange pocket watch has been changed into a wrist watch. The mountainous terrain to city skyline. The dead tree, representative of the passage of time, has been turned into a traffic light. All of the transformed elements are representative of the same concepts and ideas behind the original objects.
I created each form within the painting one by one. Using wire, canvas strips, and formed plastic pellets as armatures, the forms were then covered in clay and carved/ formed with hand tools. once sculpted to my liking the pieces were painted (acrylic paints) following the color scheme of the original painting. The background and foreground of the painting were brought to life by painting (acrylic) and placing the oak board and canvas board. The canvas board stands erect with the hardwood blocks as support from the back and the oak board as the base.
