Marsh Wrens 3-D

by Amy Sawyer for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

Inspiration Piece: Marsh Wrens Watercolor

Inspiration Artist: John James Audubon

This project was two parts - a nest and birds. The nest is layered canvas, paper, and clay layers - built over a balloon, which was removed once everything hardened. The nest supported on a base of wire, the florists foam, and cardboard. The tree branch in the nest is wire, twine, and clay. The parts were painted with acrylics.
The birds are carved, painted wood with Sculpey eyes, wire and twine legs. All parts are painted with acrylics. The birds have articulating wings, legs, and the tail on the one on the left rotates.
