Montemarte

by Emily Howard for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

Inspiration Piece: Montemarte

Inspiration Artist: Maxime Dethomas

Backdrop: assorted woods with wood block supports
Woman: Hat made of mystery box cardboard, hat fabric made of packing strips, head made of polymer clay, hair made of untwisted rope. Body support made of wood cylinder and wire armature, dress made of canvas fused with hot glue, shawl made of (painstakingly) knotted packing strips, hands made of friendly plastic pellets.
Title: Wire base with clay letters

I was inspired to make this after visiting my local art museum that was featuring an exhibit on French posters. I chose the simpler, more saturated green version of the poster because I loved the bold colors. I also made the woman bear more of a resemblance to myself, to put myself more in the project persay. Enjoy!
