Plastic Beach

by Don Lucker and Matt Lucker for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

The house was formed by machining chunks of wood and gluing them together. The palm trees are twisted wires with painted canvas for leaves. The lighthouse's body was crafted by putting a block of wood on a lathe. The lighthouse roof and mushroom tops were made by melting and shaping the plastic beads. The hill itself was made by making a wire frame and covering it with strips of thin material cut off from the box and coated liberally with glue and water. The rest of the terrain was made using either foam or clay. Most of the landscape was painted with acrylic paints, with the only exception being the spray painted house.

The piece was inspired by the Plastic Beach album by the Gorillaz.
