Sleeping Gypsy

Inspiration Piece: The Sleeping Gypsy

Inspiration Artist: Henry Rousseau

We used the metal for armature in the lion and sleeping woman figures. Over the armature we modeled oil based clay. Eventually we painted the clay and added a canvas dress for the gypsy. The details in the lion included the rope pulled apart and glued on, for the mane. Our interpretation of this painting included a contemporary ipod, and traditional vase carved from the green foam. The background included mountains cut from the thin wooden sheets and glued onto the base, made from the cardboard box which we painted brown. The moon rising in the background is made from the sculpey and supported on wire from the base.
