Starry Night

by Silvia Souza and Blue Team for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

Inspiration Piece: Starry Night

Inspiration Artist: Vincent Van Gogh

Almost immediately decided to do Starry Night by Van Gogh and divided up the tasks amongst themselves. They decided to do a layered rendition. Two boys created the large cypress in the foreground using wire and the wax clay. Several boys were put to work creating smaller houses from the wax clay which were painted by two girls. One young lady took on the job of recreating the painting on the canvas. The two other young ladies painted the base, moon, stars and houses. Some boys created the moon and stars from polymer clay. Several of these were glued and encircled by the rope to simulate Van Gogh’s swirls. Other boys took turns learning to use a dremel to sand down the roofs of the houses which had been created by cutting the larger blocks of wood into smaller ones.

this was a group of 8th grade students in Mrs. Souza's art class working independently.
