TAJ MAHAL FROM MOGHUL TO INDIA

by IBRAZ SHAIKH for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

Inspiration Piece: TAJ MAHAL

The Mystery Build kit is itself an inspiration for me, you see the limited materials and you prepare yourself for a challenge to build something which you and other people will recognize. I personally visited to Taj Mahal and I really like the way the Taj Mahal was built. It's huge, it's white and it's a symbol of LOVE. I started my process by opening the kit and separate each item just to see from where I can start making it. The scale was a one of the challenge so I chose the rectangle shape wood and draw the door and windows of Taj Mahal, since it is Re-Invent the art work I made few changes in design and carried on the carving it. I had to be careful doing anything with any of those pieces as we have limited materials. After carving I had started making the dome from clay. It was a bit difficult with the clay as the clay was not very flexible. I had to put pressure on the material to form the shapes I needed for the dome. When I saw the mystery build box I realized it was perfectly fine for my platform so I used the square flat wood to make my main platform of the Taj Mahal Mausoleum. Once I had measurements I made clear that I will make MINARs from the given wood sticks so I made holes on four corners and I made them deep enough so that the hole goes into the mystery build box. Now the wire's turn, I took a paint brush which had slender shape and I wrapped the wire around it tightly and gave the shape of MINAR and put the stick through the wire. Now for the height of the MINARs I had to make sure that all four be same and likewise it was perfect. One by one, I start to glue the stick with the wire together and made sure they stick well. Now that I had the piece ready I had to paint it. I was contemplating what color to make the Taj Mahal as everyone has seen the white Taj Mahal. I wanted to do something different. First I made the Taj Mahal white with gold contrast but wasn’t satisfied. I decided upon using the colors of the Indian Flag as the Taj Mahal is part of India; what better way for everyone to recognize India with Taj Mahal - "TAJ MAHAL FROM MOGHUL TO INDIA"

I used assorted hardwoods, canvas board, chavant modeling clay, floral foam block, glue bottle, oak plywood, steel wire, wooden dowels. And I used Dremel carving machine, clay carving tools, gloves, protection glasses, and acrylic paints.
