The Great Wave of New York

by Jeremy Allred for Re-Invent a Work of Art (2013)

Inspiration Piece: The Great Wave of Kanagawa

Inspiration Artist: Katsushika Hokusai

I built this project using the wood and glue provided in the kit, as well as acrylic paints.
I cut the thin pieces of wood into the shapes of each wave and building, then glued them in place.
I used a box cutter as well as a bench grinder to shape each piece; the bench grinder was able to cut out the smaller details in the wood that the box cutter could not cut easily.

Through this artwork, I am trying to raise awareness of the ever-growing threat of New York flooding.
