The Persistence of Money

Inspiration Piece: The Persistence of Memory

Inspiration Artist: Salvador Dali

In order to replicate the surreal nature of Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” I chose to transform his painted images into 3-dimensional objects as they relate to money. The hanging money and gold coins were created using the Chavant modeling clay. One of the blocks of wood, painted gold, represents a gold bar. The tree was fashioned out of wire, a dowel, and sculpted with the modeling clay. Friendly plastic pellets surround the “Loss Vegas” sign and were used to create the pearl necklace and earrings. The “droolex” watch was created with cardboard covered by modeling clay. The canvas cloth and rope was used to create the bag to hold the gold coins and tie the past to the present “Persistence of Money.” Finally, the box which contained the materials and oak plywood was painted and used as the fore/background.
