The only things I added to the project that did not come in the
box are paints and spray adhesive.
I played on the word "Time" to be a place in time (2006) and Time (the magazine). Every year, Time magazine names their "Time Magazine Person of the Year" and displays it for the world to see. Many have even been displayed on the electronic billboards in Time Square. In 2006, Time Magazine named "You" the Person of the Year, allowing everyone looking at the cover to be included. I wanted to recreate this moment by making my art piece resemble the magazine cover being displayed in the middle of Time Square back in 2006.
If you were to take a trip to Time Square right now, you would notice that you cannot drive your vehicle down the road like it seems to be shown in my art piece. This is because, as we all know, in 2009 officials decided to make it pedestrian only to lower the risk of injuries to both New Yorkers and tourists. I wanted to make the scene with the streets and cars running through the Square because in 2006, they were still there.
